Plant Duw at Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff, May 19, 2007

Faint echoes of sun fleet through the Cardiff sky and Plant Duw give a show at Ifor Bach that smiles with a hazy shimmer. There’s nothing spectacular about this Welsh language combo, second top of a bill headed by Colwyn Bay kids The Racketears, but their songs are humble nuggets of rhythm and thrust, hitting me in the stomach with more punch than a number of organic Westons. Tight (oh yes), shaded cartoon pop/rock nuggets with a little of the devils dance float out to a crowd that mutters for more, and while my pub supper groans in my stomach the heart is set ablaze. Plant Duw, my friends, are a grand, visceral proposition in anyone’s language. PG
