Minisnap

The sun is burning down warm today and I suppose I should be out boating in Roath Park, but I’m here with Minisnap’s debut New Broom set on the stereo, and I feel I could shut the curtains and still get that sweet summer feeling, damn it. Singer Kaye Woodward’s voice floats sweet as honey, and it really is timeless indiepop to burst hearts, a ukulele weaving through and propelling it in a way that reminds me I haven’t listened to Darren Hayman’s Secondary Modern LP for, how long now?, at least a week.

Minisnap hail from Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand, and are an offshoot from “Kiwipop” legends The Bats, who (having just checked them out briefly) seem like a splendid thing themselves, poetic indiepopers with a similarly vintage sense of melody. I’ve a feeling there might be many more gems to discover with The Bats, as they’ve been around since the early 80s, but as for now, New Broom is another worthy Stolen Recordings gem.
