Are You Real/Shy Kid?

So this sent a few shivers down the spine...

LIFE WITHOUT BUILDINGS were:
A band formed at Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow, Scotland in 1999. they released a series of singles and an album in 2001, toured the UK, Europe and Australia, and tragically split up in 2002. they were:

Will Bradley (Drums), Chris Evans (Bass), Robert Johnston (Guitar), Sue Tompkins (Vocals)

ANY OTHER CITY
was:
Their 2001 debut album which, if you’ve heard it, you’ll remember; and if you haven’t? Imagine a half-sung, half spoken female vocal delivered with the sheer enthusiasm and wonder of a child, put to a backdrop of wonderfully controlled and intricate post punk. The album was released through Rough Trade, and was reviewed ecstatically at the time, yet is still receiving more and more attention six years after its release. Leaving as their legacy only this breathtaking album and a few singles on the Rough Trade subsidiary, Tugboat Records, Life Without Buildings’ output was stunning in its originality and inventiveness. The critically acclaimed ANY OTHER CITY album has now achieved genuine cult status, and is still finding rapidly increasing popularity within the contemporary music scene, gaining praise from popular acts such as Maximo Park amongst others. Although no longer of this world, this band has many lives still left to change.

LIVE AT THE ANNANDALE HOTEL
is:
A full stunning live recording of this hugely influential band, set to be released on 11th June by Gargleblast Records (Co-founded by Andy Miller, producer of ANY OTHER CITY and albums by Mogwai, Arab Strap and Scout Niblett, The Delgados, Sons and Daughters…). The album features songs from ANT OTHER CITY as well as some tantalising never before released material. Carefully mastered from a live mix recording made during an incendiary performance at Sydney’s famous ANNANDALE HOTEL, this album captures the essence and energy of a band that have become legendary in the current alternative music scene across the UK and indeed the world. This is a hugely important document of a band whose sound, although impossible to imitate, has influenced so much of today’s cutting edge independent pop music.

The album came today, bringing memories of what I still regard as the best gig I’ve ever seen (Sam’s Bar, 2001, my horrified father in tow, etc.) and a swelling of tears to the eyes. It’s f**king ace.
